I think this can hang in there with the best hot hatches. Important numbers for the US version:
Hyundai says the 250 horsepower version of the Veloster will list for less than $28,000, while the 275 horsepower model will set you back just under $30,000. Both estimated prices include delivery, whatever that figure may be.
Performance Package (275HP over regular 250HP), adds the final helping of performance bits. For about $2,000, buyers get the extra horsepower, an electrically controlled limited-slip differential, larger brakes with 13.6-inch front discs and 12.4-inch rear discs (versus 13.0 and 11.8 standard), 235/35 Pirelli P Zero tires on lightweight 19-inch alloy wheels (instead of 18s), and an active exhaust system.
4 colors only- red black blue and chalk white
manual only, 7 speed DCT in future

Wish they brought the i30N here as well or instead of this.
Doug’s take on the car:
57/100

I also wish for the i30 N instead of this.

As you, i30N would tick more boxes... But dammit, I'm already parting with the FieSTa because of mud season and constant ass-bashing on dirt roads :/

The Koreans, now seriously challenging everyone else, feels like when the Japanese first started challenging the US for automotive supremacy. It doesn’t feel right. All those years of shit Korean cars, K-Pop sucks, Kimchi gives me hemroids, and still I’m forced to come to the realization; they are building quality cars...
I still eat Kimchi. #lovethepain

Kimchi is the shit!

... okay, now Hyundai’s getting serious. People can talk up the i30N all they want. It’s NOT HAPPENING. It SHOULDN’T. How many Smart cars do you see on the road? Americans will not buy a city car. Period. It’s proven fact. See also the SUV craze.
But undercutting Ford this hard while they’re exiting the market, with something that legitimately performs and is legitimately good? Nitpick the hard plastic all you want, but FiST is nothing but cheap cheap cheap shit materials. Sorry not sorry. Chintziest shit I have sat in in years. Frankly, Hyundai’s ‘hard’ plastic is miles beyond the shit Ford considers ‘premium.’
More importantly, there’s no compromise, meaning it’s usable for a daily driver. Which means the younger crowd that can barely afford it can actually say yes to it, because it’s not a ‘weekends only’ car. And because it’s still a Veloster, it’s relatively cheap to insure as well. The fuel mileage is also respectable.
But that manual transmission only is the deal killer. Manual transmissions are single digit percentage sales. Being manual only is going to turn off a lot of first-time buyers who don’t know how to drive stick. If they don’t get that DCT on the floor fast, I’m positive this one’s going to flop hard.

Under 28k for 250hp and that gift of a warranty? Not bad....

have you actually driven a veloster with the dct? It still ranks as the worst transmission I have ever operated. I even had a CVT mirage as a rental and it was more pleasant to drive.

Well, that’s good news for me.
I only buy cars only available with a manual.

I’m actually intrigued by this one.
My abarth is getting old and falling apart (probably didnt need to specify that second part). Looking another hot hatch
that’s as exciting to drive with maybe a bit more room, kids getting a bit older and the back seat wont be practical for much longer. Love the quality on the newer Kia/Hyundai and the warranty is the best there is.

There is no Veloster N with the DCT, period. They straight up said in the video they’re developing an all new unit for it which they expect in 2 years.

Yeah. I wholly approve of manual being available and the default. But the fact is you can’t make cars you aren’t selling. And a manual transmission is a hard sell these days, especially in the US.

Well they are doing to the Japanese what the Japanese did to us. Except instead of producing a new kind of car they are making the kind of car hte Japanese used to make at the price they used to sell it at.
All they need is some 370Zish coupe.

That Veloster N is no CTR, thankfully.

I’m saying I don’t trust them to make a DCT that will be any good, given their current DCT offerings.

I actually like the CTR, and the fact it’s so hardcore. The problem is that it’s ugly af. This veloster actually looks good.

The CTR looks basic and simple. It’s not bad looking (nor excellent) but appropriate for the era. The Veloster is too big (like all modern cars) and it has THREE doors. That’s too goofy. Even the Japanese wouldn’t do that today...
